Frank Matera on Romans

Over at New Testament Perspectives, Matthew Montonini has an interview with Frank Matera about his Romans Commentary (Baker Academic, 2010). If you want to learn about the process of writing a commentary it is an interesting read.

  1. For those who want a perspective on a scholar's process of writing a commentary may also find John Goldingay's discussion interesting...see the author's preface in vol. 1 of his Psalms commentary (in the Baker Commentary on the Old Testament Wisdom and Psalms).
This is the very thing that beginning students need...less description of the theory of various methods, and more personal descriptions by scholars on how they carry out various tasks. I myself would love it if a few scholars could describe, point-by-point, how they carry out reading for and writing a book review. (hint, hint, John :)
