I have heard this quote thrown around from time to time, but am not sure who said it. Does anyone know? Is it Jurgen Moltmann? If so, where can I find it?
But he says this in summarizing a quote from Moltmann -- and evens says, I have heard that, "I am not a universalist, but God may be." which he himself puts in quotes.
So I don't know if you can really attribute the quote to him. He, himself suggests it's a known phrase.
Kenny and Mike, thanks! I heard NT Wright use it recently, but he just says "some theologian". I think it is a good quote, but wonder if it is more urban legend.
John - I heard Wright use the same quote. Probably in the same talk that you saw/heard. I agree, it is a good quote and also that it might be an urban legend. I'll keep my ears open and let you know if I find out who said it.
John - the Google says this ...

I tracked it even further. To the book:

From comments -- page 299.

Kenny - thanks for taking that further. I just did a quick search and grabbed the first hit result. I wondered if it was legit.
